Your Favorite Monsters, Now with Edo-Period Jobs!

This sticker set is a 4×4 grid of pure animated joy, showcasing the iconic green dino Gachapin and the fuzzy red yeti Mukku as they travel back in time. It’s all about them trying out different jobs from Japan’s Edo period, and the results are adorable. The artwork has a lovely, slightly retro feel with a soft color palette that’s easy on the eyes, all set against a calm green background.

A Tour Through the Sticker Sheet

Let’s take a look at what they’re up to! In the very first sticker, a furious-looking Mukku shouts 承知! (Shōchi!), which is a very formal way to say “”Roger that!”” or “”Understood!”” – maybe he’s an angry samurai guard? Next to him, Gachapin and Mukku bow deeply on a tatami mat with the onomatopoeia ぺこり (Pekori), the sound of bowing. Then we see Mukku dressed as a standard bearer, cheering someone on with がんばって! (Ganbatte!), or “”Do your best!”” The first row finishes with the pair looking relaxed on a straw mat, a perfect sticker for saying おつかれさま (Otsukaresama), a classic Japanese phrase for “”Good work”” or “”Thanks for your hard work.””

The second row keeps the charm going. Gachapin and Mukku are bowing together to say a polite おはようございます (Ohayō gozaimasu), or “”Good morning.”” Then, Gachapin pulls off a classic ninja move, vanishing in a puff of smoke with a dramatic どろん! (Doron!), the sound effect for a ninja disappearing. We also get to see them having fun on the water, with Gachapin rowing a boat under a bridge while Mukku waves and calls out お〜い (Oooi!), meaning “”Hey, over here!”” The row ends with a very sweet Gachapin holding a banner that says ありがとう (Arigatou), a simple and heartfelt “”Thank you.””

Moving down, the third row shows Mukku running a market stall filled with fish, offering them up with a friendly どうぞ (Dōzo), or “”Here you go.”” Right after, Gachapin and Mukku are in a hurry, dashing off with a whooshing sound effect, びゅーん (Byūn). Gachapin then appears in official-looking attire, holding lanterns marked with 御用 (Goyō), meaning “”Official Business.”” Mukku follows this up by excitedly showing off a document, exclaiming みてみて! (Mite mite!), which translates to “”Look, look!””

The final row is just as delightful. The pair are seen examining what looks like a classic ukiyo-e woodblock print. Then, Gachapin strikes a superstar pose surrounded by sparkles while a tiny Mukku cheers him on. In a hilarious display of strength, a determined Mukku is shown carrying an entire castle-like building on his back! The set concludes with a New Year’s greeting: Gachapin and Mukku are dressed for the occasion with Mount Fuji in the background, wishing everyone 今年もよろしくお願いします (Kotoshimo yoroshiku onegaishimasu), a traditional phrase asking for continued good relations in the new year.

A Government, a Dinosaur, and a Yeti Walk Into a Chat…

So, who are these characters lighting up our chats? Gachapin and Mukku are legends in Japan. Think of them as being on the same level of fame as characters from Sesame Street in the West. Gachapin, the energetic green dinosaur, and Mukku, the more laid-back red yeti, have been on kids’ TV for decades. They are the intellectual property of GACHAMUKKU, and their wholesome, adventurous spirit has made them household names. It’s this widespread recognition and affection that makes them the perfect ambassadors for just about any project.

The Perfect Partnership for Modern Promotion

This collaboration is a perfect example of a win-win situation. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government gets to leverage the immense popularity of Gachapin and Mukku to make a topic like history feel incredibly accessible and fun. Instead of a formal campaign, they get to slide into people’s daily conversations through LINE and WhatsApp. It’s a soft, friendly way to promote Tokyo’s rich cultural heritage. Meanwhile, GACHAMUKKU gets to keep its beloved characters in the spotlight, introducing them to new generations and keeping them relevant in the digital age. This sticker set isn’t just cute; it’s a really smart marketing and cultural promotion strategy rolled into one. It shows how even official institutions can use popular culture to connect with people in a meaningful and genuinely enjoyable way.
