What exactly are these little guys anyway?
Meet the legendary Momojiri
KOBITOS is a Japanese character franchise based on the Kobito Zukan picture book series. It is all about strange tiny beings that live near nature and around humans. These guys are the definition of ugly-cute. They have wrinkled faces and weird bodies, but somehow you just want to keep looking at them. Momojiri is the big star here, usually looking like a pink peach with a very human-like face.
The strange world of Kobito Zukan
The whole vibe is based on a fictional biology created by Toshitaka Nabata. These creatures are treated like real animals you might find in your backyard if you look hard enough. They are mysterious, slightly annoying, and totally handy for when you do not have the right words to say. It is all about that odd charm that makes your friends go, what on earth am I looking at?
Diving into the Sticker Sheet
The first row features the fan-favorite Momojiri being super sweet. You get a heart-filled Thank You, a cheeky wink while hugging a peach, a very polite apology, and a celebratory moment where he pops out of a giant fruit. The second row shifts gears with a boy sporting a massive afro holding an OK sign. There is also a sassy pink Kobito, a stressed-out character covered in sweat, and one peeking out from the dirt like a little garden surprise.
Moving down to the third row, things get a bit physical. A rock-headed creature gets bonked by a stone, another one smashes a boulder, and a red mask-like face yells Objection. There is also a plant-like being that seems to be screaming its head off. The fourth row gets nature-themed with a bamboo shoot hiding behind a pole, a flower-headed creature taking a deep breath, the afro boy blocking his nose from a bad smell, and a classic mushroom-headed Kobito standing tall.
The fifth row is pure chaos. The afro boy is screaming, a green root-like guy is sprinting, another green one looks totally drained, and a poor pug is lying flat on its face. The sixth row shows a red creature sucking on a tree, a black feathery spirit freaking out, a beetle-like character showing off its back, and a blue seahorse-looking creature hanging out in a fishbowl.
In the seventh row, a wooden root creature looks shocked, a long-headed old man Kobito walks with a cane, a golden being looks totally over it, and another root raises its hands. The eighth row is more chill, featuring a four-leaf clover creature lounging, a red-eared flying buddy, a mushroom guy saying Hello from a log, and another waving Bye from a basket.
Near the bottom, the ninth row has a trio of carrot-like creatures, a pea-pod guy looking surprised, a beanstalk sprout, and the afro boy munching on greens. Finally, the last row gives us a family portrait saying Welcome, the boy getting mad at his pug, the pug taking a nap, and a cat sleeping with a tiny creature hitched on its back.
The Masterminds Behind the Madness
Sony Digital Entertainment teamed up with San-Byte Creative Co., Ltd. to publish this set and make sure everyone gets a taste of this weirdness. Toshitaka Nabata is the original creator and copyright holder who dreamed up this entire ecosystem. He is the author and illustrator who defined every bulge and wrinkle on these characters. This 2014 collection remains a favorite because it captures Nabata’s unique vision of nature and fantasy perfectly.
